This second volume deals comprehensively and authoritatively with the Age of the Marcher Lordships, 1070-1536, from the coming of the Norman conquerors to the acts of Union between Wales and England, dealing with many aspects of the region’s history including social, political, economic, religious, architectural and literary.
Professor Ralph Griffiths is formerly Pro-vice-chancellor and Professor of Medieval History at the University of Wales, Swansea. He has had a long and distinguished career as an historian and member of the Board of Celtic Studies, and has recently published The Short Oxford History of the British Isles: 14th and 15th centuries for OUP. The Contributors of the Gwent volume include academics, county archivists and retired scholars.
