The Fortress Excavations 1972-1974 (ISBN 0-7083-1050-8) Report on the Excavations at Usk -- Volume IV And Minor Excavations on the Fortress and Flavian Fort W. H. Manning with the assistance of I. R. Scott pp xxi194 plus 32 pages of plates 1989
`The Usk reports will long serve as a textbook for the excavation of Roman military timber buildings. In the present volume the results of the excavation are set out in meticulous detail, the material is skilfully organized, the plans are clear and elegantly drawn and the standard of printing is such that few will regard the price of the volume as unreasonable. The achievement is all ther more impressive when the technical problems of exccavation are appreciated: in post-Roman times alterations occurred in the subsoil which often made features difficult to define.' | The Roman Pottery (ISBN 0-7083-1173-3) Report on the Excavations at Usk -- Volume V pp 452 including 175 figures 1993 `This is a major report for anyone interested in Roman pottery and the Roman army, whether in this country or abroad. Greene's concentration on the continental background of the fortress pottery and the emergence of `Roman' pottery in the provinces is fully warranted, and the potential for further work is made clear. Webster's comprehensive regioal study is of exceptional value; other regions would benefit greatly from similar reviews. The value of this report extends far beyond Wales, and congratulatons are due to all contributors.' (Britannia)

 | The Roman Small Finds (ISBN 0-7083-1302-7 ) Report on the Excavations at Usk -- Volume VII W. H. Manning with Jennifer Price and Janet Webster pp xxii386 including 103 figures plus 34 plates 1995
This volume contains the specialist reports on the Roman small finds from the 1965-76 excavations at Usk, other than the pottery and coins which were published in earlier volumes in the series. Although the collection is dominated by material from the Neronian Fortress, it also includes the finds from the later Roman occupation of the site, which contributed until the late fourth century AD. The objects are arranged by function rather than by material, and the catalogues are supplemented by wide- ranging discussions of the various types. Among the more important groups are military equipment, jewellery and trinkets, shoes, glass vessels, domestic equipment, quernstones, tools, iron fittings and tiles. An index lists all the finds coming from individual contexts, together with their dates and references to other volumes in the series where the structural evidence and the pottery and coins are published. By using this index all the finds from Fortress contexts can be correlated. Click here for more information
