We believe that the best outcome for UWP’s books comes from personal attention and dialogue between the commissioning team and our authors. In partnership with our authors and peer reviewers we aim to shape, develop and evaluate proposals and manuscripts to produce the highest quality books in terms of intellectual content.
UWP’s Commissioning Department respects that your work as an academic researcher is of vital importance to you, and that when you publish with UWP you are placing your faith in us to do justice to your work – for you as an author, and for your academic institution. We work closely with other departments within UWP, and continually assess the most beneficial options for your book.
We are aware that the Commissioning team is your first port of call and contact with UWP and, although much of our work is conducted electronically, we hope you’ll find your first contact to be a friendly, positive and productive experience.
We aim at all times to adhere to best practice for commissioning procedures, and have a stringent and rigorous peer review process that is a central tenet for academic publishing.
Nevertheless, we also publish a range of titles for the general, trade market on Welsh and Celtic subject matters, furthering our mission as a publisher for the people of Wales. Even if you are not an academic researcher, we are keen to emphasise that there is a place at UWP for more popular studies and approaches.
So, whether you are an experienced academic with a strong publication record, an early career researcher, or a general non-academic author, we very much look forward to hearing from you.

Our responsibility is focused on successfully guiding the book through each production stage: copy-editing, typesetting, proofreading, cover design, scanning, image treatment, indexing, printing and e-book creation. As a result, we deliver a quality publication that meets the eminent standards expected by our readers, while also satisfying the requirements of the project. Moreover, we always ensure that the author is well informed and happy throughout this process, from handover of the manuscript to delivery of the final publication.
The department strives to maintain the highest possible standards in terms of editorial accuracy and quality at every stage of the production process, resulting in our continued high reputation as a world-class university press among authors and readers alike.

The department works consistently to ensure that we maximise the presentation and promotion of each of our publications to booksellers, both nationally and worldwide.
We ensure that every book, e-book and journal has a presence in our seasonal new titles catalogue, which is sent to an evolving and extensive list of academic libraries and bookshops. Additionally, all new titles are presented to our dedicated sales teams in the UK, Europe, the US and Canada; our international distribution ensures the right stock is at the right place at the right time in North and South America, Europe, Japan, India and China.
We are wholly committed to the online book world to showcase and sell our books and e-books. Every book is represented on key online bookselling sites, such as Amazon, Blackwell’s and Waterstones, and every e-book is handled by our extensive list of distributors including Academic Publishers, Dawson Books, Ebooks Corporation, Ebrary, Ebsco, Gardners, MyiLibrary, and Barnes & Noble. Further marketing materials are also e-mailed to relevant academic libraries and bookshops, learned societies and associations.
The extensive skillset and experience of the Sales and Marketing team ensures that we develop and implement an individual marketing strategy for our authors to best employ the international scope of each publication. The members of the team, together with authors, editors and UWP’s Commissioning Department, work hard to identify key conferences and events and compile promotional campaign materials, targeted e-mailing marketing materials and despatching flyers, order forms, advance information sheets and catalogues.
