The volume explores how and why Wales and the Welsh were depicted in films of the period 1935-51, by examining different genres of film produced from within and without Wales. The work is based on comprehensive empirical research, including archival material (particularly from the US) that hasn't been used before. A short introduction introduces the historical and cultural context of the period, and the text then proceeds chronologically.
