It is with a heavy heart that we bid Professor Ceri Davies a very fond farewell on his retirement from his role as Chair of the UWP’s Editorial Panel. Under his skilful steerage the Panel has provided an important additional layer of expertise and evaluation in the key peer review process for UWP’s publishing programme in Welsh, Welsh subjects in English, and beyond. Ceri’s distinguished career as an academic and published author in Welsh and English on the Classical tradition, especially in Wales, Medieval and Renaissance Latin, has brought a richness and depth to our discussions and play a pivotal part in our decision making. Professor Helen Fulton will be taking over as Panel Chair; we extend a warm welcome to her and look forward to working with her in the future to continue the Press’s work.

We have greatly benefitted from, and will miss, Ceri’s quiet authority, eminent good sense, and understanding of the importance of upholding the highest standards in academic research and publishing. At every meeting, we have known that a constant is his unwavering support for the Press, its raison d’être and staff, in these challenging times for academic publishers, especially those with a vital yet uncommercial mission such as ours. He has always exhibited kindness and a passion for Wales, its heritage, culture, and language. So it is with huge thanks that we say goodbye to a true friend; diolch yn fawr, Ceri.
