From the Association of Welsh Writing in English:

“Dr Matthew Jarvis (Aberystwyth University/University of Wales Trinity St David) and Lisa Sheppard (Cardiff University) are this year’s winners of the prestigious M. Wynn Thomas Prize for an outstanding academic essay in the field of Welsh Writing in English. The judging panel, Professor Diana Wallace (University of South Wales), Dr Tomos Owen (Bangor University) and Dr Alyce von Rothkirch (Swansea University) were very pleased with the quality of the submissions. The winners’ work displayed exceptional scholarship as well as originality and are worthy of this important prize.

The panel was also impressed with the increasing international reach of this prize. Submissions came from Wales, England, Ireland and the USA. It is hoped that the spread and diversity of submissions can be further increased in the future.

We gratefully acknowledge the generous sponsorship of University of Wales Press. Winners receive £150 each and a full set of the Library of Wales titles published by Parthian Press, whom we also like to thank for their kind gift.

The prize will be awarded at the annual conference of the Association of Welsh Writing in English, ‘In/Dependent Wales’, 11-13 April, Gregynog Hall, Powys.”
